CHEESY C64 PROGRAMMING

Before the Internet was even heard of, modems were readily available for home computers. Bulletin Boards, or BBS's, would have places for people to chat, download software, and on the Commodore view images via keyboard graphics. Since 1200 baud was considered fast back then, being able to send pictures was a pretty big deal.

As a good geek, I thought keyboard graphics were cool and played around with them a lot, planning out pictures on graph paper. Below you'll find samples of the pictures I did back then, as well as a videogame I did in BASIC about the space shuttle. All are in .d64 format and work in CCS64.

I'd love to hear what you think of this stuff. Also, if you have Cheesy C64 Programs you've written and would like to share, drop me a line.

SHUTTLE

Shuttle is a game I wrote in BASIC, in which you are testing out a new space shuttle for NASA. There are several arcade like levels connected with a menu interface. It's not much compared to a commercial game, but i think it still holds up. Let me know what you think.

KEYBOARD GRAPHICS

Here are some examples of keyboard graphics I did for local bulletin boards in the late 1980's. The download includes the above images and several more pictures of keyboard graphics with a viewer, several are animated.

SCROLL WRITER

Scroll writer was a program that friends of mine and I used to make animated demos to upload to bulletin boards. It used keyboard graphics with a few special animated characters and let you choose a music piece to play. The download comes with these and several more demos we did. They are self running and the demo maker program is included.
